Hi everyone..

As some of you may know, my mom, Kerrie, has been battling cancer for a few years now. We have recently found out that the Squamous Cell Carcinoma in her throat has become invasive.

My mom will be undergoing major surgery at UAB on Tuesday, July 13th. The surgery will be 10 hours long and she will be in the ICU for 3 days, followed by a week long hospitalization. Her recovery time is expected to be at least 90 days.

Unfortunately, she will need to be on a feeding tube for 3 months post-op, and because the surgery involves micro vascular reconstruction through her right arm, she will not be able to write either. Later, she will most likely go through 7 weeks of chemotherapy and radiation.

My dad, John, will be her primary caregiver during this time. The loss of income during for my parents as well as the costly medical and hotel bills will be substantial.

We are reaching out to you all in hopes to help alleviate some of the stress during this hectic time.
