Baby Avery

Our neighbor and friend has gone through a lot over the last 5 weeks. Aubrey delivered her first child, a beautiful baby girl named Avery Marie on Easter Sunday. Unfortunately she started showing signs of lung distress in the maternity center and had to be transferred to the Levine Children Hospital NICU in Charlotte. Aubrey and her mother traveled uptown day and night to the NICU to be by Avery's side. After surgeries, biopsies and tests, she was diagnosed with a rare genetic mutation effecting the surfactant production in her lungs, of which there is no cure. After bravely fighting for 5 weeks through assisted breathing, she was taken off life support and passed away peacefully in her mother's arms on May 18th.

While there is nothing we can say or do to lessen the unimaginable pain of losing a child and grandchild, all we can do is hope to ease the burden of medical bills so the family can focus on healing.
