South Tipp Hospice Cycle Fund Raiser
Hi, my name is Eamonn McGee, on the 17th June this year I will be doing a 135km cycle from Thurles to the Vee and back again in memory of my late father Eddie McGee and also to raise funds for South Tipperary Hospice. Cycling has been a huge part of my life for the last 10 years or more and in that time I have taken part in numerous cycles and sportives to raise funds for worthy causes. I decided in the weeks and months after my dad’s passing that I would like to do something in his memory to raise funds for the Hospice with cycling being the obvious choice.
South Tipp Hospice was central to dad's care towards the end of his life. They were great to call to mam and dad to see how both of them were doing and to assist them in any way they could as dad's cancer progressed, particularly with pain management. They also provided comfort and support in dark days when it was needed, sometimes just calling to check in for a quick chat and a cuppa tea which meant a lot to my folks.
At my dad's funeral my brother Oliver spoke about how you know nothing about Hospice care until you need it! How right he was. I have no doubt there are families all over learning about it everyday and it's no easier for anyone I believe. This cycle is important to me as it reflects the route I often took on my way to see dad in Clogheen, leaving home to head to Clonmel to our home place and then head out to see him in Clogheen before heading back to Thurles, I've added the climb past the hospital to the top of the Vee to add a little kick to it. If you would like to join us on the day of the cycle, for all or just 20km please do, we’d be delighted to have you. Drop us a msg and we’ll get in touch with route details and times.
Funds raised from the cycle will go directly to South Tipperary Hospice to help continue the very important work they do.
Many thanks,
Eamonn
