All donations raised benefit a child in need of therapy services. Many current long term patients have insurance limitations for therapy services. Families end up paying out of pocket or in most cases due to financial hardship, do not receive the services for the remainder of the year.

Mia's Story
This year Mia celebrated a very important milestone as well as many equally important "inchstones", as we like to say. Mia took her first independent steps this year at her clinic's Christmas Party! Everyone was shocked! It was like she knew what she was doing from the beginning. We are proud to say that she is now an independent walker. She continues to work hard and push herself daily. She is currently working on climbing stairs. It is because of her physical therapy that she made such great progress.
An inchstone we celebrated recently was promoting Mia to self feed. It's hard for Mia to get over the feel of certain textures, especially when it comes to food. She is not a big eater anyway so this has been a struggle for us. In Occupational Therapy, they have been working on her fine motor skills. Specifically, the ability to pick up small objects and place them in small holes. For example, Mia can now pick up a marble and place it inside a water bottle! This new skill has translated to food and Mia can now pick up a blueberry and feed herself.
While Mia's vocabulary is still very limited, her receptive speech and cognition is getting better everyday. She is able to follow direction (as well as any almost 3 year old can) and has a better understanding of the world around her.
Our ultimate goal is for Mia to become independent. She was lucky enough to be a recipient of this scholarship fund last year as we were faced with insurance limitations. We were so thrilled that she was able to continue her therapy. It is truly because of her physical, occupational, and speech therapies that Mia is gaining independence and confidence.
