Hello,

I‘m Lulu’s pet human, Chanelle, and our family is trying to give this awesome dog a second chance at life. Lulu has been the tiniest member of our family for 4 years with the largest personality. She has a passion for doggy treats, doggy playdates, barking at mailmen, suntanning in her favorite spot, and snuggling. 

Sadly, Lulu was born with a congenital condition called a liver shunt, a vein that goes around her liver and that robs her liver of vital blood flow. It also deprives her liver of the ability to cleanse toxins from her blood, which can result in an accumulation of toxins in her body. She was diagnosed this past summer during a trip to the emergency vet. Lulu presented with neurological symptoms and in a near comatose state due to the high levels of ammonia in her system.

To try and delay the effects of the liver shunt, Lulu has since been prescribed lactulose and prescription dog food for dogs with liver disease. These modifications have helped her to return to a semblance of normalcy. However, medical management will only temporarily delay the effects of her condition. Without corrective surgery Lulu will pass from liver failure, but your kindness can help to change that. Surgery would allow Lulu to live a full life, correcting the blood flow to her liver by sealing the extra hepatic vein and allowing her liver to function normally.
