At the end of March, I brought my dad, Michael, to the ER due to some serious medical symptoms. He was hospitalized immediately and the doctors found a large tumor in his pancreas with possible spread to other vital organs.
So far, in the last week alone, he has undergone two major surgeries just to help alleviate immediate symptoms. We are still in the process of testing so we can work out the best long-term treatment options. Based on the size of the tumor and the apparent progression, the doctors think my Dad will be in full-time treatment for 6 month to 2 years.
My dad has already not been able to work for the past month due to his symptoms, which were initially diagnosed as something else entirely. He has always been the main provider for my mom, and I want to make sure she’s taken care of during this time, along with him. He’s an independent contractor, so has no company recourse to cover their bills. My husband and I are covering some of these and also a lot of medical expenses that weren’t covered by insurance, which have been quite high in a short period.
Between us and my mom, we are pooling together everything we can, as his ability to work has been put on hold indefinitely due to his medical condition. This GoFundMe aims to alleviate some of the financial strain of his medical treatments, and loss of income during this difficult time.
The timing is additionally challenging because I’m currently 8 1/2 months pregnant and I’m trying to get him and my mom financially set up for his treatment before the baby arrives.
Your generosity will go a long way in helping him focus solely on recovery without the added worry of financial obligations while he cannot work. Any contribution, no matter the size, will be deeply appreciated from the bottom of our hearts.
My dad is so strong and has said that when he beats this, he most looks forward to chasing his grandkids around the park and playing basketball with his buddies.
My family appreciates all of your kindness, love, and support immensely. Thank you so, so much.
