On March 15th our son Ben started with an infected knee in 2022 from shards of metal that entered his knee and became infected. With over 7 surgeries, lots of hospitalizations, and a muscle flap that had to be performed because he was not healing. The wound would not close and continued to cause pain and has been very debilitating in his everyday living activities.

In September 2024, we thought he was improving until his elbow started hurting becoming swollen due to a broken elbow when he was 15 yrs old. He went to the doctors and had to have emergency surgery to fix the bone as well as new screws, plates and what they discovered was the ulnar nerve was damaged and had to be rerouted. This was the first of 6 more surgeries that had to be performed because he was not healing, and the bone became infected.

The most recent surgery in February 2025 they found that there were puss & 2 abscesses on the bone. While in the hospital he lost so much blood that he had to get a blood transfusion and now has been diagnosed with a blood disorder called thalassemia that needs further testing.

Our son went to school to become an auto body technician. This was a career that he was very passionate about and loved what he was doing. He was making amazing money and was able to provide for his family with no struggles. He is no longer able to work with his hands or kneel on his knees to do what he loved. He has been out of work on and off for over 2.5 years.

This has taken a huge financial burden on their family with over 30k in medical bills and other financial responsibilities that need to be taken care of.

Ben and his wife Kristina have 2 young boys, Nolen 10 and Tristen 5. Ben struggles with a normal daily routine which also includes playing with his children and doing normal things that most 32-year-old men do. Enjoying life itself.
