Support Taylor's Journey to Become a Nurse
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Taylor. I’m 23 years old and currently a practical nursing student. Becoming a nurse has been my dream for years, and I’m finally on the path to making it a reality—but I need a little help to get there.
Since high school, I’ve wanted to work in healthcare. I started college in 2022 with hopes of becoming a nurse, but after being discouraged by a professor, I lost confidence and dropped the program. Still, I couldn’t shake my passion for healthcare.
In 2023, I enrolled in a phlebotomy course and graduated with 101.5 for a final grade. For the first time, I felt proud. With support from my fiancé, mom, aunt, and grandma, I earned my NHA license and began working in the field. My instructor and former nurse grandma told me that I need to consider nursing. I had the compassion and the intelligence and I needed to do it. I told someone I looked up to about this, expressing my excitement only to be shot down and told that I would be a horrible nurse. I felt discouraged again. I trusted them and looked up to them for years. But maybe they were right.
However, after working many jobs doing phlebotomy, it was my job in home health care that truly showed me nursing is my calling. It was a path I could not deny any longer.
One of my first patients—a spirited, 90 year old former nurse—made a lasting impact on me. A week before she passed away, she told me, “Patients like me need a nurse like you. You are on the exact path you need to be on.” She then told me that this conversation was coming from one nurse, going to another, and that she was passing the torch.
Her words stuck with me. I even wrote down the whole conversation in a diary, I reflect on it when I doubt myself.
I promised her I’d become the nurse she believed I could be.
I’m now fully committed to this journey. I work part-time while attending school, and although I received a $5,000 loan through FAFSA, it’s not enough. Between tuition, bills, and other living expenses, I’m struggling to keep up financially.
I’ve been knocked down before, but I refuse to give up. I believe I was meant to be a nurse, and with your support, I’ll get there.
Every donation—no matter the size—brings me one step closer. Thank you for reading and for believing in me.
