Luke's Surgery
Donation protected
This is Luke, aka Lukey, our sweet and goofy 3 year old English Retriever. Everyone who meets Luke falls in love with him. He is the happiest, most fun, social dog who we love so much and consider our family.
Luke had an ill vet visit a week ago and because of a suspicious X-Ray had to have a major exploratory surgery to remove what was stuck in his small intestine. After surgery, he had a really rough recovery and for days, though trying really hard, was not acting himself. About 5 days after his surgery, we noticed that his incision area was very inflamed and swollen and started pouring out fluid. We took him to the emergency vet that night, where the veterinarian told us they were very concerned for Luke and he needed to have another surgery to investigate the built up fluid in his abdomen. After a very long surgery, it was discovered that Luke's original incisions were leaking fluid and he now had a septic abdomen, which is extremely rare. The veterinary surgeons had to remove 4 feet of his bowel and when surgery was over, he was transferred to the ICU. Luke is expected to stay hospitalized for a few days after surgery or until he is cleared to go home. At this time, Luke is still recovering in the ICU and his prognosis is still very guarded however they are hopeful he will make a mostly full recovery.
We love Luke so much and will do anything to give him the help he needs. But, the cost of these surgeries and recovery is honestly unnerving. While Kayla is prepared to finance a large portion of the bill, there are still a few thousand dollars left to cover. We are working all angles to make sure Luke gets the care he needs for a full recovery.
Please prayerfully consider donating what ever feels right to help Luke's recovery process and surgical veterinary bills. Our sweet boy has many more happy years left to live!
