Hello and thank you for visiting this Go Fund Me Page. We are the family and friends of a young mother named Pooja. She has called the beautiful city of Toronto home her entire life. For years she has been fighting an uphill battle against a relentless, undiagnosed lung condition. A fight that has taken her for to the ICU more times than we can count, tethered to life support, struggling to breathe.

In 2022 a miracle happened. She became a mother to the most beautiful baby girl. Her daughter’s arrival reignited a fierce determination in not just her but for all of us. We wanted to make sure that she was around to be part of this miracles life.

It is not a light thing to do as a parent to have to tell your child that they needn’t worry about their baby and that when she is gone, her baby will be looked after. Yet, we as her family and friends are finding ourselves using such dialogues when she ends up at the hospital again. We want her to live, to see her daughter grow, for her daughter to have her mother as she most certainly deserves.

Doctors told her that she wouldn’t live to see her 25th birthday. She fought and she fought. She survived. They then said she wouldn’t live to see her 30th birthday. So she took it as a challenge and fought some more. She continued to barely survive. They all told her that it was a mistake to see her pregnancy through, that she wouldn’t survive childbirth. She is now 33 years old and defying every prediction with her little girl by her side.

Her daughter has just turned two and we all wish that she sees that baby girl walk off to her first day in school, help her get ready on wacky hair days, go pick out an outfit for prom, fill out college applications, her minor and major milestones - for everything.

The past two years have been the hardest yet, leaving her weaker than ever and gasping for hope. Her condition has pushed her primary physicians to refer her to the leading respiratory experts in Canada. They believe there’s a chance for her—a chance to breathe again.

She needs a series of groundbreaking surgeries that could change everything. They’re still in their research phases, but they hold the promise of not just survival, but peace. For her to go bed without wondering if she’ll wake up the next day. For her to spend a day without fearing that it might be her last. For her to continue to live in the now but to also start dreaming about a future. These surgeries could give her the gift of breathing freely—for the first time in years. They would give her a future with her daughter.
