Eric's Fight for Life

Donation protected
Life is beautiful, but it is not without struggle. Eric is battling a rare stage-4 cancer, and he and his young family need your support and prayers. Eric and Becca have been together for nearly 14 years, through college, marriage, and parenthood. Eric and Becca welcomed Hazel to their family in 2020, and life was wonderful, spending many weekends outdoors, taking local outings, and enjoying family and friends. Now Eric is fighting for his life as he battles a rare cancer diagnosis. With his wife and daughter’s support and much love from family and friends, they need your assistance.
In May of 2021, Eric was not feeling well and was admitted to the hospital. After a few long days of blood tests, a colonoscopy, CT scans, and a biopsy, Eric was diagnosed with cancer. A week later, he met with his oncologist and learned that the biopsy showed a rare form of cancer called Neuroendocrine Cancer, more specifically, Metastatic High-Grade Neuroendocrine Carcinoma. The cancer had spread throughout his abdomen to his liver, lungs, lymph nodes, spine, and bowel while also forming a large tumor in the colon. The cancer was spreading and growing rapidly, and chemo was started immediately.
Over the next four months, Eric battled through 6 cycles of chemo. With treatment came multiple struggles and roadblocks, but Eric’s CT scans showed promising results. The cancer was responding to treatment, and the tumors were shrinking. Eric finished his first round of chemo in September of 2021 and was doing well.
A follow-up CT was scheduled for January 2022. Sadly, around the holidays, Eric noticed changes in how he was feeling. The CT confirmed that Eric’s cancer was growing rapidly, and he would need to start chemo right away. Unfortunately, Eric was getting worse and having trouble eating. Instead of starting chemo, he was admitted to the hospital after finding a bowel blockage.
After consulting with a surgeon, it was decided that surgery was the best option. On February 8th, 2022, the blockage caused by a large tumor on his colon, other small tumors along his bowel, and multiple lymph nodes were removed. The surgery was successful but took longer and was more complicated than expected, leaving Eric with a 10-inch incision down his abdomen.
A week and a half after surgery, Eric was still not feeling well. He has struggled to recover due to his body fighting to heal from surgery and withstand his cancer. Eric’s wound began draining fluid and infection, which caused the medical team to reopen his incision. His wound remains open to heal until it can be properly closed. Thankfully, Eric is able to be home with the help of family and Home Healthcare to care for him.
Eric’s goal is to heal quickly and start chemo! His organs are trying their best to function despite the cancer attacking. He is fighting for his life but continues to stay positive for himself and his young family. Chemo is delayed until Eric is healed and strong enough to start a new treatment. Eric and Becca are currently consulting with The Mayo Clinic to make sure they explore every possible treatment option.
All funds will support Eric and Becca’s little family as they continue to fight cancer on a single income. Treatment, medical, and travel expenses have started to accumulate, and the family appreciates your kindness and generosity. Eric remains optimistic and strong as his treatment continues, and Becca, Hazel, and his many family and friends thank you for your contributions and prayers during their time of great need.
