Community helper needs help!

As an advocate and activist, I have gotten used to using my big mouth to fight for others and build community. I have spent years listening, learning, and speaking up for people in need— whether it be survivors of domestic violence, wounded service members, or residents in the community struggling for equitable access to medical care, fair housing, and racial justice. I've always known that many people are just one major emergency away from having their lives thrown into chaos. And while our community resources are sparse, I never knew how dire the situation could become until I was on the other side of the coin.
Almost six months ago, I received a medical diagnosis that was not only unexpected but life-threatening. As I began to undergo extensive medical testing with visits to specialists and treatments, it became more and more clear that I was in for a long fight to recover and regain my health. It also became obvious, that even though I work full time and have insurance, I could not afford to follow doctors' orders to stay alive, meet out-of-pocket medical expenses, and maintain secure housing for myself and my daughter. After reaching out to community agencies and exploring all my options, I have been forced to acknowledge that my own pride and reluctance to be transparent and vulnerable have caused me to overlook my greatest resource- my community itself.
One thing I have learned in my years of public service is that there is strength in numbers and a lot of people doing a little can accomplish big things. I am humbling myself and reaching out to my village in hopes that you will show up for my family in our time of need. We are in danger of losing our housing and having outstanding medical expenses that will soon be sent to collections. We would appreciate any help you can offer-- whether it be $5, $10, $20 or even just sharing this post and spreading the word. I'm truly grateful for any support at this point and thank you in advance for any and all help. Peace and blessings to all!
