Natalia’s Surgery

Natalia Isabel Torres is our 2-year old baby girl that is full of life and love. She is smart and kind; she loves to be outside and explore nature; and she loves to sing and make everyone laugh (just like her dad). She recently became a big sister, and is loving it! 

A few weeks ago, Natalia was diagnosed with Saggital Craniosynostosis. This is the premature fusing of the sutures in the head. Children born with craniosynostosis may have increased pressure on the brain and vision problems. If left untreated, increased pressure in the brain can cause blindness, seizures, and brain damage. As of right now, Natalia has not experienced these symptoms, and we are extremely thankful! However, upon further evaluation, the doctors have recommended skull surgery called “Cranial Vault Remodeling” to reshape the bones of her skull. Her surgery is scheduled on May 8th, 2023 in Downtown Houston. 

This surgery involves removing and reshaping the bones of the skull to make room for brain growth and improve her head shape. After the surgery, Natalia will be in the ICU for a few days for close monitoring. Once she is safe to discharge, we are expecting multiple follow-up appointments with the pediatric neurosurgeon, plastic surgeon, and ophthalmologist. We are raising funds to be used for Natalia’s medical bills during and after this surgery.

Because of the nature of this procedure, Fabian and I think it is prudent to get a second opinion because we want to be sure that surgery is absolutely necessary. The surgery has been scheduled based on the two surgeon’s soonest availability. Ideally, we want to see another physician before May 8th for that second opinion, so that there is no delay in care. If this isn’t the case, there is a possibility that we might have to reschedule the operation to a later date.
