Mounting Medical Expenses
I was a healthy, 33 year old woman without blood-clotting issues or family history of cardiovasular or pulmonary illness, and yet I was recently hospitalized after collapsing at work because of multiple and massive pulmonary embolisms in my lungs, heart, and left leg. Additional symptoms were deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary hypertension and dyspnea. It was found out that all of this was caused by birth control I was on for almost 3 months. On top of mounting medical expenses for being transported to the hospital and being in the hospital, I am also required to pay out of pocket for follow-up visits to my doctors, bi-weekly lab tests for the next 3 - 6 months to check my INR levels, and blood-thinners because I don't have insurance. After what's happened, I really need all the help I can get without depleting my entire savings and / or having to file for bankruptcy.
