Help Cure Epilepsy

Hi, my name is Hailey Bremner. You have my name, now here's my story. I was diagnosed with Epilepsy when I was very young. It was in the Spring of 2009 and I was 8 years old in second grade. My mom noticed that there were several times a day that I looked like I wasn't paying attention; I looked like I was staring off into space and my eyes would blink rapidly. These "episodes" didn't last very long but they happened a lot, and when they did, I couldn't remember anything that happened or was said to me. I felt confused a lot. It was very hard for me to get through this time because I felt lost and people started to be mean and make fun of me. I went to the doctor and they had me do a lot of tests. I had to have lots of blood tests, I had a CT scan on my brain (they wanted to make sure I didn't have brain tumor or cancer), and I also had to have a test done called an EEG. That stands for Electroencephalograpy. At that time, I actually liked having that test, because I had to stay up until midnight and then wake up at 4 a.m. and then go to the hospital where they put all kinds of wires stuck to my head. They wanted me to be tired because I have more seizures when I haven't had enough sleep. Now I don't like this test at all because I love to sleep and hate to wake up early. The results of this test showed that I had a kind of Epilepsy called Childhood Absence Epilepsy. I have been on several medications over the years to try to stop my seizures. It took awhile, but we finally found the right medicine and I haven't had a seizure in over a year. I have a good chance of outgrowing this kind of Epilepsy. I hope that can happen for me. I will have to have another EEG soon and then maybe I can go off my medicine. I tried to go off the medicine over a year ago, but my seizures came back, so at least I know the medicine is working for me right now. I currently have an assignment for my English class where we are trying to make the world a better place by helping a foundation in need. I chose the Epilepsy Foundation because of my personal story and wanted to give back in some way. I feel lucky that my kind of Epilepsy is not very severe. There are many people who suffer seizures much worse than I have, and some can't be controlled through medicine. I chose this foundation to help the many people that suffer from this neurological disease. I have partnered with one of my best friends, Polina Privorotskiy, who has been my friend since 4th grade and has shown me support throughout my struggle. (4th grade was the most difficult one for me when I was having multiple seizures everyday, which also caused me to have tremendous anxiety). Our idea is to reach out to as many friends and family that we have to raise as much money as we can to go towards the Epilepsy Foundation. If you could please help me to raise money for this foundation by making a donation on this website we would greatly appreciate it. Thank you so much for your support.
