Earlier this year my wife Jessica experienced something scary that so many women have gone through: she found a lump in her breast. At the time we were afraid to even say the words "breast cancer" out loud, but subsequent tests have confirmed the lump was what we feared: a malignant tumor that had spread. A few months later we got more bad news, there were pre-cancerous cells in Jess's other breast.
As you can imagine, we've been on a roller coaster of emotions since then as we have navigated tests, doctors analyses, more tests, insurance frustrations, surgeries, and now chemotherapy (we had a head shaving "party"...see photo).
Fortunately, the bottom line is encouraging! Jessica is going through "chemo lite" and her prognosis is good, but more surgeries will be necessary before we can hopefully put this whole cancer chapter behind us.
How can you help?
1) Keep us in your thoughts and prayers. The letters, meals, babysitting offers and other symbols of love from those close to us have been invaluable in keeping our spirits up during this time of uncertainty.
2) We've decided to accept donations through GoFundMe to help pay for Jessica's mounting medical costs. Yes, we have insurance but unfortunately some of Jess's early cancer tests were performed at a hospital that is "out of network" so we are on the hook for all of those out-of-pocket expenses.
Thank you for reading this and for holding us in your love.
Matt (and Jessica)
p.s. Any funding we receive over our goal we will donate to breast cancer research.
