- I
Hi, my name is Jemima Billy, and I’m reaching out with a hopeful heart in the midst of a difficult chapter in my life.
I was born with cataracts in both eyes and underwent surgery at the age of 4. Since then, I’ve lived with artificial lenses. In 2023, I began to notice troubling changes in my vision. After several consultations, specialists confirmed that the lens in my right eye had become displaced; a result of having outgrown the implant I’ve lived with for over 20 years.
Now, I urgently need complex surgeries in both eyes to replace the lenses. Without it, my vision could continue to deteriorate, threatening my independence and daily functioning. The government’s Medical Aid Program has generously covered half the cost, but I’m still in need of $10,000 XCD to complete the procedure, not including pre-operative testing, which I’m trying to manage on my own.
This situation doesn’t exist in isolation. I also live with several chronic and autoimmune health conditions, each demanding ongoing attention, energy, and resources. Often, I’m forced to prioritize one condition over another, a constant and painful balancing act. Stress exacerbates these illnesses, affecting not just my physical health but also my mental well-being.
Trying to hold everything together; doctor’s visits, medications and bills while watching my vision fade has been incredibly overwhelming. But I hold onto hope. This surgery isn’t just about restoring my sight; it’s about regaining stability, clarity, and the strength to keep fighting across all areas of my health.
If you are able to donate, I would be deeply grateful. Every contribution, no matter the amount, brings me closer to healing. And if you’re not able to give, sharing this message could help more than you know.
Thank you for reading, for caring, and for standing with me during this vulnerable time.
