Hi - My name is Karen, and I am Kathy's sister, who needs your help - Please.

My brother-in-law Roger (66 years old) had a massive brain bleed stroke on July 7, 2025. He spent 6 weeks in the hospital and was sent to a rehab/nursing home where the insurance will run out this week. Nursing home costs in MI are approx. $9000 a month, which they cannot afford. Before this stroke, Roger was working as a welder and Kathy is washing dishes in a retirement complex, so low income – but owned a house and were making ends meet. We are working with the State of MI to help pay the nursing home monthly costs, which currently Roger has no release date. However, this doesn’t help the support to keep the house bills, so Kathy is still working for that reason.

Here’s the rest of this sad story. After Roger goes into the hospital, Kathy asks if I will come into the house. It has a couple of problems: Well, the toilet is falling through the floor of the only upstairs bathroom (Roger must have had a long-term bleed, according to the doctors, which affected reasoning for a couple of years), so the house is in major disrepair. After several contractors, God sent an awesome guy who agreed with the little funding we had to fix the bathroom.

Here’s where things went downhill fast: the smell in the house – mouse condos in the walls, toilet leaking - black mold in the kitchen walls, ceiling, and bathroom. Nothing could be saved. So now we have a house with no bathroom or kitchen and no funds to repair. Kathy is currently staying with my mother (including a dog and cat that are also homeless) and Kathy’s 25-year-old son, who was living with them, is also homeless and staying with a friend.

Now, this family has not had an easy road. My sister has had a learning disability all her life, Roger, my brother-in-law, had socialization issues before the stroke, and my nephew Justin also has learning disabilities. None of them graduated from high school but did manage to get jobs, drive cars, and have a family – but not understand how to keep a house from falling apart.

Please, if anyone can help, I have a carpenter who will do the work reasonably so we can get Kathy and Justin back in a clean, nice place with hopes that my brother-in-law can someday return home.

Thank you for your time. And if you can’t offer financial support – please pray for them.
