This is Evelyn. She is a sweet, creative and happy almost eleven year old girl heading off to middle school next school year. She loves to dance and do artwork and all of the other things normal 11 year olds are interested in!
Just this past week, Evelyn was diagnosed with a rare type of cancerous tumor called Diffuse Leptomeningeal Gliomeuronal Tumor. If you google it, you won't find much. This is a tumor on the brain and in Evelyn's case also on the spine. There are only a few cases mostly in young children like Evelyn.
Even though this news has been a devastating shock to Evelyn's parents, her doctors at Children's Hospital in Aurora, CO have given Evelyn a positive prognosis with lots of treatment! Evelyn's family is remaining very positive and faithful that the treatments will allow Evelyn to get back to being a funloving young girl with a bright future ahead of her!
Evelyn will undergo chemotherapy once a week on Fridays for 1 year along with regular MRIs checking the size of the tumors. Along with this, she will also recieve physical therapy on her treatment days.
The treatments will begin immediately beginning with the insertion of a tube to administer the medications so she won't need an IV every week.
Evelyn, her parents and her 4 brothers and sisters have a tough road ahead of them and that's why we are asking for help. The Sofolos are not a family that would normally ask for help for anything and that's why I have set up this page for them. They are the sweetest family of 7 you'll ever meet! They are strong in their faith and always remain positive no matter what life throws at them.
Evelyn is the oldest of 5 children ranging in age from 18 months to 11 years old. They are busy, hard working and put their family first. As you can imagine, Evelyn's treatment will be a huge financial burden on them as they continue to raise 5 children.
