Hello, my name is Rachel, and I’m raising funds on behalf of my beautiful friend Katie
Earlier this year, Katie faced the unimaginable when she was rushed to hospital and diagnosed with a meningioma, a type of tumour that forms near the brain. This slow-growing tumour had reached the size of an orange, and on 13th August, Katie underwent a gruelling four-hour surgery to remove it.
Thanks to the incredible medical team at King’s College Hospital, Katie survived the operation. The tumour was confirmed to be non-cancerous and successfully removed in full.
However, the pressure the tumour placed on her brain has caused significant damage. Katie has lost her sight completely and been diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder, which affects both her speech and mobility.
Despite this devastating outcome, her spirit remains unbroken. Her humour, strength, and warmth continue to shine through, winning the hearts of many hospital staff who cared for her during those early months. She has been a true inspiration to everyone around her.
Katie now faces a long and challenging road to recovery. We’d love to come together to gift Katie something special. After researching tools used within the blind community, we’ve learned how Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses and AI technology can help support day-to-day independence. Our hope is to raise enough funds to gift Katie a pair.
Any donation, no matter how small, would mean the world. And if you’re unable to donate, any kind words, encouragement, and messages of positivity would be just as precious as Katie navigates her new way of life and looks ahead to 2026.
Please feel free to share this among your networks, and thank you so much for your love, kindness, and support
