On Monday, January 15th, our friend Susan Honeycutt suffered a catastrophic fire that began in her wood stove and spread through the attic. Eventually it engulfed her entire house. Susan was able to escape with her five rescue dogs and her car, but everything else was a total loss.
Pet lovers in Boulder, Colorado will recognize Susan from her many years as a vet tech. She currently works at Pet Mender’s Animal Hospital in Boulder, Colorado.
Others will know Susan from her many decades of involvement in wildlife rehabilitation, as a (retired) wildlife rehabilitator, along the Front Range of Colorado. Wildlife rehabbers are a small and close-knit community, who always go the extra mile to aid any injured or orphaned wildlife. Their feed and care comes out of their own pockets. Susan is known, loved and respected not just in Colorado but as far as Canada.
All of her friends are grateful she and the dogs survived, but she has lost everything except her car and the clothes on her back. She is currently staying with her sister in an apartment too small for 5 energetic dogs.
We’ve started this campaign to give back to a woman who has given her all to the animals and wildlife of Colorado. All of us want to help in a significant way to provide shelter, clothing, necessities and food for Susan, as well as kennels, bowls, food, leashes and beds for the dogs. This amount may seem low, but it is a starting point while she wades through the shock, insurance paperwork and rebuilding.
