Many will be dumped at shelters by their owners if we don't meet their deadlines to find a new home. Others are in our Foster Homes and need spay/neuter and veterinary care before placement. We constantly have successful adoptions, but new dogs are always being surrendered and need our help.

Layla was found running through busy city streets in 90-degree weather. She was skin and bones, dehydrated, full of fleas and recently had puppies. Layla is currently in our foster home getting some rehabilitation with good healthy food, vitamins and love. Her vet bills started at $500 for just exam, bloodwork, shampoos, HW preventative etc. and she will need to be spayed at an additional $600 + once she is fattened up and healthy. Layla's coat was literally falling out but now it is coming in fluffy and clean. She arrived at 51 lbs and two weeks later Layla weighs in at 61 lbs! She is playful, super friendly, and sweet as can be -- she loves being around you. We now know this girl is only about 1 or 1-1/2 years old and wants her own home! Help us help Layla with some donations that will pay her food and vet costs. We would love to get her into the cool Sierra where she can run and play in the lakes. Here she is riding in the car on her way to Foster. Notice the hair loss on her middle back to rump. She is literally ski and bones but it's hard to see. We weighed her in at 51 lbs! She should weigh at least 74 lbs ...

Here is Layla now at end of July at her Foster Home. She has a sweet boyfriend to play with (and she wears him out) and is now 64 lbs! She is going for another blood panel to correct some of the levels that were not so good last panel. If she checks out, she will be scheduled for spay ... and ready for her new home!

Our Goal: We are very picky about where our rescues go and have stringent requirements for adoption - An Adoption Application, Interview and a Home Check for every potential adopter - so it often takes a while to find the right match. Some of the dogs in our Adoption Program come from their original homes who love them but cannot keep them any longer, while others are from really nasty situations or high-kill shelters. Scared, untrained, injured, filthy, skinny and not very adoptable at first, they often need medical attention, grooming, spay/neuter, boarding, or to be put in one of our Foster Homes for rehabilitation and training. Veterinary and transportation bills are unrelenting.

Because we are a small organization, LTWR does not get the big donations that the larger groups do. We also need your continuing help on a regular basis, so please remember us with an automatic monthly donation to keep the process going. Lake Tahoe Wolf Rescue has been in operation since 1995 and has a high success rate of adoption, but we can't do this without you! Most of our rescues are wolfdogs, but they all deserve to have a happy life with people who have experience, time and love to offer.
