Jerry and Tori Burton
Gerald Burton (Jerry B) went in for surgery on June 7, 2021, to remove a bone cancer tumor in his pelvis. It was so large, it was cutting off circulation to his leg and causing tremendous pain. His choices were a risky surgery or death within a couple years, which wasn’t an option for him. During surgery, there were complications which required the surgeons to stop for the day. He was alive but sedated with a paralytic so he could rest, and surgery would resume the next day.
The next day, they removed the rest of the tumor, which would be confirmed by a CT scan. The incision remained opened but packed in case the scan showed more tumor. He lost half his blood supply during both surgeries.
They performed a third surgery on his leg to improve blood flow. They monitored him for internal bleeding, infection, and fever. The scan came back clear so they removed the packing and closed him up. He was not out of the woods yet. During these three surgeries over the course of several days, his devoted wife, Tori, remained at his bedside with the company of loving friends and family. Over the course of the next week, complications were encountered, including fever, his inability to be weaned off the ventilator and breathe on his own, and rapid heart rate.
At the end of the week, after he had become more stable, they performed a tracheotomy to assist him in breathing better, as he had acquired pneumonia. He remains on the ventilator at night but can breathe on his own during the day with minimal support from the ventilator. After two weeks, he mouthed “I love you” to his wife and he blinked and squeezed her hand! Such a joyous moment for Tori! One thing everyone knows is that Jerry LOVES his wife with all his heart. Currently, the doctors are cautiously optimistic about his recovery. He will have a very long road to full healing.
A bit about Jerry as a person; he is an absolutely loving, kind, compassionate, caring, and generous individual who always puts others ahead of himself. He would give you the shirt off his back if it would put a smile on your face. This world needs more people like him!
He is self-employed as an entertainer and singer, as well as co-owner in a travel agency. He truly has a passion for music and singing like no other.
He started a non-profit organization to help one homeless person at a time. He helps them get on their feet, find work, a home, and helps them get a new lease in life! He does this by donating his tips to the organization. He believes in this mission with all his heart.
He also sets up group trips through his travel agency and in doing so, raises money to donate to different organizations for people in need. It is called “Traveling for a Cause”. So, you can see, everything he does, involves helping others. Now, it is him who needs help. If your able to find it in your hearts and finances to donate to Jerry and Tori during their time of need, it would be greatly appreciated. Jerry and Tori are so grateful for friends and family who have been by their side during this difficult time in their lives.
If you are unable to donate, they just ask one thing of you, which has been their motto through it all: “Just simply hug your loved ones tight and tell them you love them always because tomorrow is never promised, and you never know the last time you’ll get to do those two things.” God bless and thank you again from the bottom of our hearts!
