Dear friends, family, and community,

I am reaching out to ask for your support for my dear friend and work colleague, Sarah. I’ve had the privilege of working alongside Sarah for a number of years, and I’ve seen firsthand the warmth, kindness, and dedication she brings to everything she does. Sarah’s infectious energy and big heart have made her not only a wonderful coworker but also a beloved friend to all who know her.

Recently, Sarah has been diagnosed with leukemia, and as you can imagine, this news has turned her world upside down. Sarah’s strength, positivity, and resilience have always been an inspiration, and now, she needs our help. As she begins her journey, the financial burden of medical bills, treatments, and other essential needs is quickly growing. We want to ease some of that burden so Sarah can focus on what matters most - getting better and returning to the people who love her.

Sarah’s Story:

In early 2025 there was a fire in Sarah’s apartment building, and although she was not present for the fire, her apartment had fire and smoke damage. It was around this time that Sara started feeling sick.

Sarah had many doctor appointments, tests, blood transfusions, a bone marrow transplant, and an insane amount of traveling between Milwaukee and Madison. At the time she was living in Milwaukee, but her medical care was in Madison. In late July 2025, Sarah received the devastating news that she had been diagnosed with acute melanoid leukemia (AML), a form of cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow. Her doctors made it clear that treatment needed to begin immediately, and she was quickly admitted to the hospital to start her chemotherapy regimen.

Sarah is currently at the hospital for intense treatment. Initially she was told it would be for 4-weeks but she recently found out she will need to stay for an additional 2-weeks minimum. Once she is done with her hospital stay, she will undergo consolidation chemo, which will also require her to be admitted for four days at a time. As if this wasn’t challenging enough, Sarah will need a stem cell transplant this fall, requiring another lengthy hospital stay of at least 28 days, if not longer.

Given the intensity of the treatments, Sarah will need to relocate to Madison to continue her care at the University of Wisconsin Hospital. This move is critical, but it also comes with additional financial burdens.

The funds raised through this campaign will help cover the cost of Sarah’s relocation, basic living expenses, traveling expenses (which include Uber rides as she will be unable to drive for a period of time), and a huge amount of medical bills.

Sarah’s fight against leukemia is far from over, but with the love and support of her friends, family, and community, she is facing this challenge with the strength and determination, that we all know her for!
