Bike for Beth

Our beautiful and caring daughter Bethan died suddenly of sepsis on February 8, 2020, at the age of just 21. This has obviously devastated the lives of myself, my wife, Jane, and our son, Rhys, who was so close to his big sister.

At the time we knew that Bethan should not have died, and earlier this year an inquest finally concluded just that. We were let down by the medics and have spent those five years tirelessly trying to find some sort of justice for our little girl, while facing an obvious culture of cover up in the NHS. We are now campaigning hard so that Martha's Rule, which has been implemented in England so that patients and parents can seek a second opinion, is brought in in Wales.

This will be the third Bike for Beth. This first one in 2021, I rode from Cardiff to Narberth. The second one in 2023, over two days, I rode from Cardiff to Narberth and back. So this time I am making it even harder and am going to ride from Cardiff to Narberth and back in one day. It will be a ride of about 220 miles, which, considering 144 miles is the most I have ever ridden in a day before and I will be 58 by then, will be a very tough challenge. I was originally going to ride on September 27 but because of an infected knee after a crash and the death of my mother in law I have pushed the date back to Saturday October 18.

I will be raising money for three charities: the first, Crohn's & Colitis UK, a charity that was very close to Bethan's heart after she had been diagnosed with Crohn's in 2019, as well as 2 Wish and the Professional Cricketers' Trust, who have both been so good to us since Bethan's death.
