Trip of a Lifetime (not for me)

Once in a lifetime. It’s a trite phrase that often doesn’t ring true. But in this case and for this young man- it truly is the trip of a lifetime. Bear with me.
“J” is a bright young man who participates in our Early College Program. He has a great sense of humor and is an incredibly hard worker. He is also afflicted with a degenerative condition called Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. His attitude is amazing but his physical condition is deteriorating quickly. We have a group of teachers who have planned a student trip to Italy for Spring Break. “J” has signed up to go on this trip. However, the expenses needed for “J” to take this trip are immense and include having a dedicated nurse (and maybe nurses) to ensure his medical needs are met, extra wheelchair batteries, European battery adapters, support devices, tips to support assistants, etc… These expenses are not covered by the trip cost borne by the family and, frankly, they are not in a position to afford the extras. The trip itself is a stretch. So, on behalf of the staff of Infinity HS, I am asking for any support you can offer because for “J”- this is really THE trip of his lifetime. I know that times are tough, but I want you to consider how the impact of your generosity will positively affect this young man’s life. We wouldn’t ask if it wasn’t important.

Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a genetic disorder characterized by progressive muscle degeneration and weakness due to the alterations of a protein called dystrophin that helps keep muscle cells intact. There is no known cure.
