My name is BraShauna, and I am the full-time caregiver and daughter of my mother, Stephanie, who is battling a rare and debilitating autoimmune disease called Stiff Person Syndrome. This condition causes severe muscle spasms throughout her body and has now affected her ability to walk and swallow since October 2024. She is completely bed bound and dependent on a feeding tube as her only source of nutrition.

Although my mother has insurance, her feeding tube formula is not covered. She does not qualify for Medicaid, which means she also does not qualify for any medical transportation benefits. The trip to every doctor’s appointment must be paid for out of pocket, and transportation costs are extremely high.

The financial burden has become too much for our family to carry alone.
