Lori's Recovery Fund

Hi, my name is Mandy, and I am Lori's best friend . . . and I mean, the kind of lifelong friend that over the years becomes your family, which is why I am organizing this GoFundMe fundraiser for Lori.

Lori has spent her entire life helping others and has never once asked for help. She is a private person and is not the type to dwell in self pity and does not display her personal issues to others for sympathy. She has recently suffered a stroke and must be out of work for a time in order to continue rehab and therapy to regain her life. She is a nurse who recently started a new job that she loves, but unfortunately does not have time off with pay to permit her to receive compensation during this medical recovery period. I am asking for monetary help for her and her family to ease their financial burden during this time as she currently cannot walk, write, or even see without deprivation.

She had breast cancer in 2008 and with that came many medical expenses during that time. In 2021, she thought she strained her back which turned out the be far from the actual diagnosis. She spent weeks going to a chiropractor for relief but once she couldn't walk realized the problem was much worse. She ended up in the emergency room only to find she had a collapsed lumbar vertebrae and was transferred to a specialty hospital for specialized Neurosurgical care. She had a billion tests . . . MRI's, CT's, xray's, PET scans. She underwent a lumbar laminectomy, lumbar decompression, and a spinal fusion. While in the hospital she developed a blood clot in her lung and was placed on daily blood thinners. But, the treatments didn't stop there. She then underwent many treatments with radiation and more chemo, as the root cause of the spinal fracture was cancer. She is a 1 in 8.

Unfortunately her husband, Mike, is retired and provides care for his mother who suffers from dementia and a recent diagnosis of breast cancer. Lori tries to take care of everything at her home and unfortunately due to the current circumstances she is not able to do any of this at this time. This is why I am asking for your help.

Lori hasn't made it home yet and will not be home from inpatient rehab for about another week. Once home, Lori will have to continue to receive therapy and rehab of some magnitude for an unknown period of time. When she does begin working again, she will be limited on what her mental functions can tolerate.

Lori's basic monthly expenses, medical bills and continued treatment costs have begun coming in and are overwhelming. The medical bills are astronomical, but if we can just raise enough money to slightly lessen the financial burden this would allow Lori to focus on recovery. Any amount of money raised would be a blessing. No amount is too small. She will be grateful for anything. As Lori is now on the other side of the table, the one receiving the care instead of providing the care, please find it in your hearts to give anything that will assist with her recovery.
