January 5th, 2022, my husband, John,
and I got the biggest and most unexpected news ever. By a surprise chance I was pregnant after years of wondering if that might ever be possible for me. We were so excited and started dreaming of names, baby items, and what our baby would look like. We found out at 14 weeks we were having a boy and decided on the name Rowan Finn Berry! We were so in love from the very beginning.
and I got the biggest and most unexpected news ever.
When I reached 19 weeks and 5 days my whole world changed. My water broke. I knew this wasn’t right. John and I immediately went to the hospital where I was diagnosed with PPROM. Despite not being at viability yet, my doctor kept me admitted to make sure that at the very least my health and safety from serious infections would be monitored and we would make the goal to try and get to 34 weeks for delivery. I was admitted to the hospital April 7th on bed rest.
I was able to make it past viability, all the way to 26 weeks and 2 days. We just held out so much hope that Rowan, despite my low levels of amniotic fluid, that maybe with just enough time in my belly his lungs could mature enough. He was born May 24th at 5:58pm and taken immediately to the NICU. On May 25th his oxygen levels were declining and he was not responding to treatment. We made the decision for comfort care so that he would not suffer. He passed away in my arms at 2:17pm. Sadly, his lungs were just too immature.
We thankfully have a wonderful family support system and my team of doctors and nurses have all been wonderful in taking care of me and John. However, we know over a month long stay in the hospital will be very costly and it will take us a long while to financially recover. I know many people have reached out asking if there is anything they could do. Even just a little donation will greatly help towards our healthcare costs and the loss of my income from that time.
For everyone who has followed our story and offered words of comfort we will forever appreciate you.
