The Rhythm Wonders School: The School that we hope to build is located in a village called Namasuba-Kikajjo not too far from Kampala the capital of Uganda. When it is built it will welcome and give hope to poor children and orphans from war torn areas, broken homes and captivity (children who have been arrested and made child soldiers) from preschool to age 16 who cannot afford to go to school. They will be able to study music, dance and art in conjunction with their academic education so they will acquire the experience and skills to earn a living in their future life.
My name is Godfrey Muwulya, I am 32 years old and I come from a very poor background myself. Because I have worked hard, I have been able to finish my college education in human resources, business and the performing arts and have become a successful music and dance teacher and performer. I am a great example of what can happen when doors and opportunities are opened up.
Five years ago, I took in a young homeless boy who found shelter in my backyard. The word got out about what I had done and soon other homeless children were appearing on my doorstep. Because of this, I eventually founded the Rhythm Uganda Orphanage which houses, feeds and educates 19 children.
My deep heartfelt desire is to give back to the community where I was born and grew up by founding a school which will offer young people opportunity and hope for their future.
Two and a half years ago, I found a piece of land that would fit our needs that cost $17000 and I began by giving the owner a down payment. I have been paying him every two months with the money that I have earned performing and teaching. I am so dedicated to this idea that I have also literally sold everything that I own, including most of my clothes, to fund this school. I now have a balance of $3900.
To finish the project we will need $50,000. This amount includes building materials and labor. Stage one will fund the first block of classrooms (ages 3 to 8) and will cost $15,000, Stage 2 will cost $15,000 and will fund the second block of classrooms (ages 9 to 16) stage three will fund the roofing and painting of all blocks and it will cost $20,000.
Please help me fulfill my dream to provide hope and opportunity to the impoverished children of Uganda.
With Love and Gratitude, Godfrey Muwulya
