Fire Destroys Home and Claims Life of Beloved Pet

Hi, my name is Judy, and on December 15, my brother, Keith Shepherd's home in Rockwood, MI caught fire and he lost everything. His pup, Mercy, alerted him to the fire in time and he was able to make it out. Sadly, Mercy did not. Keith is heartbroken. The cause of the fire is believed to have started with a bird's nest on the front porch light; the house was uninsured.

Keith has worked hard all his life and to have this happen now or ever is heart-wrenching. He has always been there for family, friends and even those he didn't know well. It is my hope that anyone who knows him or can relate to a story of having to start over will make a donation to this cause. What is left of the house will have to be torn down and cleared; not sure what can get built at this time, but he will need a lot of help. And of course, nothing will bring his Mercy back.

Keith has always been extremely self-sufficient and would much rather give than take; if he were younger, he'd go out and work 3 jobs to replace his home but he is on disability and cannot do that any more. Please help if you are able to, if not with a monetary donation, maybe you have a business or crew that can help clear the lot-anything would be welcome and greatly appreciated.

Although there could never be a replacement for Mercy, I am hoping that he will be able to welcome another pup into his heart when he gets settled again. Thank you and best wishes and good health to all.

I'd also like to send out our sincerest "Thank you" to the Trenton and Brownstown Fire Depts. Keith was especially touched by the Trenton Fire Chief who found his wallet (soaked but mostly intact), truck keys and Mercy's little body which he so gently wrapped in a blanket and brought out of the ashes. The courage and compassion of these men is beyond compare. We so much appreciate you all!
