This sweet girl’s name is Abbie, she was adopted by a family in the KMC area. When the family adopted her (the daughter saved up her allowance to adopt a dog of her own) they were under the impression that she 3 years old, and fit as a fiddle. When they picked her up from the airport (she came from Cyprus) Monday, 14 September, they took her to the vet 2 days later, and the vet said she’s actually around 6 years old, severely anemic, and only has about a year left to live, so the family surrendered her to a volunteer family that evening. Two days later the family noticed that her belly was really bloated and that she seemed to be in pain. So myself and the family took her to Dr. de Lima’s office that night, the vet said that she had a tumor on her spleen and she went into emergency surgery that night to get her spleen removed. She is still recovering from the surgery, but her stitches were removed on 29 September, so her road to recovery from surgery is almost over.
At one of her follow-up appointments, one of Dr. de Lima’s vets said that the removal of the spleen did not change her life expectancy and believes she is between 6-8 years old.
This girl is one of the sweetest dogs I ever met.She absolutely loves cuddles, attention, to sunbathe, and walks. She also does the cutest thing as a beg, she’ll get on her back legs and paw at the air (she’ll do this for any of the 4 just mentioned).
Right now we are trying to raise money to pay for her surgery and follow-up appointments (which total 1,200€ so far), and future treatments the vet wants to do because she has leishmaniasis and requires daily meds, enlarged liver, and severely anemic from erlicha.
