Hi, my name is Oliver Matthews and I am 56 year old Bus driver for Mercy Fleet and Ambulance Company. I have worked with them for over 5 years now transporting senior citizens from various parts of Philadelphia to an Adult Day Care Center in the Germantown section. On October 12, 2023 at approx 8:30am I was driving my clients to the Adult Care Center through the Olney section when gunfire broke out. When I approached the corner I heard multiple gunshots and saw kids running through the street. As I quickly turned the corner the driver's side window was hit by a bullet and I noticed a burning sensation near my left side. I yelled back to my clients to make sure they were okay and continued to drive out of the area until I felt it was safe to stop and pull over. As I was driving I was on the phone with 911 to let them know what happened and that I was shot. I was rushed to the hospital and immediately into surgery as the bullets pierced my lung and liver. As this is being typed I am still in the ICU. Thanking GOD that I am alive and that none of my clients was harmed in this senseless act of gun violence in the city of Philadelphia.
