Ruth Ester's Medical Expenses & Recovery Fund

On January 16th my mother, Ruth Ester, had a stroke in the middle of the night in El Salvador. She had a hemorrhagic stroke on her right side which caused her left side to become paralyzed. She has required intensive care and therapy to recover so she can go back to her normal daily life. 3 months later and my mother still requires 24-hour care and is taken care of at the best facility I could find in San Salvador. Unfortunately, she has not made much progress and her left-side mobility has not improved. it is not ideal for her to still be in El Salvador and I want to fly her back home to Los Angeles as soon as possible. I plan to have her go to an inpatient rehabilitation facility and hopefully later, at-home care covered by her health insurance and other programs. My mother means so much to me and anyone who knows her knows she is a strong woman, who is loving, and giving. She deserves to have the best care and that is all I want for her.

Between my income and my parent’s social security, we can barely pay half of the medical expenses each month. Since her medical insurance doesn’t cover out of country expenses, all medical bills have been out-of-pocket. The first week the medical expense was over $5k, after, each month it has been around $3k for the services at the facility, physical therapy, exams, specialists, medicine, and all basic essentials that need to be purchased (hospital gown, diapers, gloves, baby wipes etc.). I have also spent money traveling every month to visit my mother and ensure that she is well taken care of. We have gotten through this with a loan, my savings, and financial support from my family. This financial toll and stress are why we need assistance for the next couple of months. We are in need of funds to cover next months’ expenses, my parent’s flight back home, and other items she will need after her return (i.e. wheelchair etc.).
