Hey Everyone!
My name is Sophia Griffith a 22-year-old Barbadian International student studying Psychology at CUNY York College. I have always been a dreamer from young. One of those dreams including being able to study in New York and become a Child Psychologist. I knew I wanted to cater to the needs of underprivileged kids as there are a lack of counselors in the primary and secondary school sectors.
As farfetched as it seemed, my dream soon became my reality. Little did I know that two years ago I would be leaving Barbados with only my acceptance letter, a plane ticket, a couple of hundred dollars, and a dream. I never knew where this journey would take me, and I would be lying if I said it was easy, but I do not regret one bit of it. I encountered various hurdles and speed bumps along the way. Moreover, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, I have come upon yet another speed bump.
I have come to terms with the fact that all these current obstacles have been completely out of my control. My dream of studying in New York and fulfilling my bachelor’s degree in Psychology is almost substantively complete, with recently achieving all A’s last semester. However due to these speed bumps, I am unable to afford my tuition payments currently.
Though I am aware of the adversity of the task at hand, I’ve always believed that everything you want in life you must work hard for. Through God’s grace and my growing faith, I’ve made it thus far and will continue to succeed and with your help, I would be able to finish my bachelor’s degree and get one step closer to my dream of helping the kids that truly need it.
Please note that because I am an International Student I’m unable to withdraw the funds and therefore I’ve added Rhea Sahadath as my beneficiary. She will be withdrawing the funds on my behalf. GoFund Me allows for persons with US citizenship to withdraw on your behalf and due to that their transparency policy stipulates that the person’s name is added to the campaign. I apologize for any confusion caused.
Thanking you in advance for your generous contributions.
