For those of you that don't know, I have recently been accepted by the EU Studies Summer Program in Brussels, Belgium!
In addition to providing insight into the history, design, and current policy issues of the European Union, this program features a series of guest speakers (current EU practitioners, including representatives from EU institutions, think tanks, lobby groups, etc.) and an EU simulation.
"But Jason," you ask, "WHY do you want to do this program?"
Good question! I love getting opportunities to answer this question because it forces me to think critically about why I am doing the things that I am. I'm studying comparative politics because I hope that one day I'll get the chance to advise elected officials on matters crucial to the international community. One way that I can start developing expertise is by studying the European Union in its heart, Brussels. Academics aside, I am really really really looking forward to spending the summer in a new country, surrounded by a new language, and making new friends along the way.
This program is excellent, yes, but it is also expensive! I've already purchased my plane ticket (yikes!) and have received a scholarship, but I still have a long way to go! If every one of my Facebook friends donated only $3 I'd be able to afford my study abroad program. If you're able to, please support my goal of studying in Brussels! Regardless, thank you so much for reading all the way through this message. I truly appreciate it!
