Fern Wales age 9 for Brain Tumour Research

My name is Fern Wales and I am 9 years old. In November 2019 my dad was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumour. This has made me really sad because he’s too sick to do the things we used to do like ride my bike and go to the park. My dad can’t drive his car anymore and has had to give up his job. He had to have 2 surgeries on his brain and is having radiotherapy and chemotherapy to try and stop his tumour getting bigger.

I know my dad won’t be here forever but hopefully someone will be able to find a way to stop his tumour growing, so I can grow up with my dad.

I had organised ‘Wear a Hat day’ at my school to help raise money for Brain Tumour Research as there is currently no cure. 

All cancers are important and require research and cures but brain tumours receive the least funding of all the cancer spend. 

Due to recent world events, my fundraiser has had to be cancelled and I am unable to collect vital funds for this charity.  We are very lucky that my dad is here and I get to spend as much time as possible with him in these uncertain times. However his treatment plan is affected and also the vital work of scientists and staff at the charity, who will be unable to do research to stop this awful disease that affects so many people under 40.
