Hi everyone,
This is the family of Travis Edelen, and we are starting this campaign to raise funds for Travis to help get him through this very difficult time in his life.
Travis was badly burned in a house fire on January 2nd, 2016. Approximately 30% of his body was covered in 2nd and 3rd degree burns. He was rescued by the fire department and taken to Mercy Hospital where he is being treated in the ICU burn unit. He spent the majority of his first 6 weeks in the burn unit on a ventilator and under heavy sedation. He has undergone numerous skin grafts on his lower legs, feet, arms, wrists, and hands. Most recently, his forehead and eyelids were grafted with more to come, and he may have a few toes and fingers amputated. After his surgeries are complete, he will need extensive physical therapy to regain his strength and dexterity.
Travis is a 26 year old man who just completed his bachelor’s degree in safety management while working to support himself. Having just completed his degree, he gave his two weeks notice at his old job at the end of 2015 upon accepting a job offer in his field. He was slated to start at the beginning of the year, but that did not happen because of the fire. Therefore, his medical bills are mounting and he has no income. Travis does have health insurance, but his deductibles are very high. Travis also has substantial student loan debt which he planned to begin paying off upon starting his new job.
Travis has had a tremendous amount of support from family and friends visiting him and praying for him, but unfortunately the medical bills are mounting. With the long, arduous road to recovery still ahead of him, Travis will not be able to go back to work any time soon. Any support you can provide to help offset some of the financial burden is greatly appreciated.
