There is life on Life Support

My Mother  was in the hospital in a sleep induced coma for 2 weeks for respiratory failure on July 26. On August 7th (my birthday) she woke up and was immediately transferred to A hospital that specializes in weaning patients off the ventilator. My mother was unsuccessful in getting off the ventilator due to her health issues. My mother has COPD (lung disease), Congestive Heart Failure, Chronic Kidney Disease and Sleep Apnea. My mothers heart is really bad and she is not healthy enough to have heart surgery.

After 2 months, my Mother was just discharged from the hospital and is home on life support. My only option was either for them to transfer her to a nursing home or we take her home with training on how to operate the vent. I refuse to put her in a nursing home because she will not get the 24hr attention she can get at home and she wants to be with her family. Its a huge undertaking but I am willing to do whatever it takes to make my mother happy and comfortable. Its scary at times to know my mother's life depends on a machine. I think about power outages, malfunctions etc. My mother can only last for about a minute with out the vent. Just recently my mother passed out on the hospital floor for no air. The tech and the nurse was moving her from the wheelchair to the bed and didnt realize they disconnected her from the vent.  The whole staff had to come in to perfrom and emergency procedure to bring her back. This was very traumatizing for me to witness and for my mother to go thru.  The life support tube can only go but so far. I wished the nurse and the tech would have used a little more caution in handling my mother where she didnt have to go thru so much pain. I am going to make sure my mother will always get the care and the attention at home to make sure these incidents don't happen.

Mommy is currently on Medicaid and they don't pay for respiratory therapy. I am going to do some research on this because I can not see how a person who is on life support can't get the care that is needed by Medicaid. Right now Mommys Medicare expenses is more than I can bare which is why our family wanted to do a fundraiser.

We are trying to raise $60,000 to get us by for 12 months to cover the following:

1 Generator

24/7 Respiratory Team for 14 days for $4200 a week ( This team will give us the necessary training at home to learn how to operate the vent)

24 hr aid care. Medicaid only covers 8hrs a day

(It takes at least 3 ppl to change mommy. Someone always have to watch the tube and hold it so it doesn't pop out.

Supplies: Adult pampers, gloves, feeding tube food, blood thinner pills that medicaid doesn't cover

Ambulance service to transport from home to doctors appointments

My mother is a very loving and caring person. She loves to party, listen to music  and go to the casino. I redid her room to make it as comfortable as possible. I want my mother to have the best quality of life she can possibly have. My mother is currently engaged and will get married as soon as she is strong. I will update everyone on her progress from time to time with photos and videos. The video attached was mommy on a good day dancing in the bed. Since that video she hasn't been herself. I'm hoping she gets her spirits and strength back.

Any help you can offer my mother will be greatly appreciated.

Love her daughter,

Janice
