My name is Charla Foster from Juneau, Alaska and I now live in Buxton, Maine with my husband. My mother is Sue Ray and I am one of her daughters. I never got to know my mom much because I grew up on my dads' side of the family in Juneau, Alaska. To sum it up, my mom has been in and out of my life when I lived in Alaska. We started a phone relationship in 2011 because I moved to Maine. At least it was a form of relationship and I'm thankful for All the time I had with her throughout.
Sue Ray of Yakutat, Alaska was such a Free-Spirited woman who always enjoyed being good company to others. She has the Most Beautiful Handwriting I've ever seen. She loves music and her favorite song is Suzy Q. If you hand her a harmonica, she would convince you she is the best harmonica player ever to play and would play her heart out to you. She loved spending time with family and friends and would entertain you for hours if you let her. She definitely loved going to BBQ's and would be the 1st to show up to any feast when invited. She enjoyed being the life of the party and would be the last one to leave because she never wanted to leave a Good Time.
My mother unfortunately passed on December 13th, 2015 in Anchorage, Alaska and I decided to have my mother cremated. Sue has 6 children altogether, of which 2 are deceased. 3 have been adopted. Fascinatingly, the youngest one adopted, who now lives in Idaho, has recently found her way back to our family through Facebook. I have been talking to her for the last few years on the phone and we are starting to become good friends.
I would like to have Sue's Memorial Services in her hometown Yakutat in May when the ground has thawed and have her ashes be laid to rest next to her oldest daughter along with her mom and dad. I know this will be the best place for her because Sometimes it takes a Village and Yakutat knows how to step up and come together for each other in events like this. Funerals in Yakutat are actually done by hand with family members and the Community of Yakutat. There are no Fancy Machinery and Equipment to use. There are no Funeral Homes to pay to do it for you. With this being done by hand, it definitely becomes a Very Personal Experience.
My goal for this campaign is to have enough funds to put towards : any burial expenses, lodging, and gas. Plane tickets for family members will be costly, especially if you are outside Alaska. Tickets for my husband and I alone total $2,050 at this moment and grows as time goes by. I would like to contribute towards airline tickets for my husband and I. I would also like to contribute towards airline tickets for my little sister in Idaho and can't wait to finally meet her and introduce her and her boyfriend to our mother's side of the family. The cost of food and groceries in a Village are outstandingly expensive. I would like to contribute some money for family members in Juneau and Anchorage to purchase and bring some food and goods at wholesale costs, i.e. Sam's Club or Costco Warehouse.
It takes a lot for me to be open and personal, let alone share my emotions for the World to see but I am finally willing to open up. My mother passed on my 7th wedding anniversary and it's now one of the Most Personal Days of my life. December 13th will now have a New Meaning to me. I have had an Amazing response with loving support from family and friends, in which, I am forever grateful for. I have a Love for God and he has been my shoulder to cry on and blessed me in so many ways, as well as lifted me up. To be the next of kin and have your own mother be laid to rest is as personal as it gets for me. I'm about to plan the Most Important Party of my life! It's the Celebration of Life for Sue Ray of Yakutat. I definitely want a Beautiful Service for her and plan on doing it right. She Deserves to be Remembered!!
It's hard for me to ask for help, especially if it involves money, and this has definitely helped me realize that it's ok to reach out and do so . I would like to share myself to the World and ask for help. I am not asking for the World to just give me $6,000. This is just the goal amount I think will be enough to accomplish what I have in mind. Please understand that I will be pitching in my own efforts and money towards this. I am a hard worker and take pride in myself that I can accomplish great things when I put my mind to it. May 27, 2016 is going to be The Most Beautiful Day of my Life!! I know it.
I am thankful for all those who have nurtured me with love and encouragement. I am thankful for all your prayers. I am thankful for all those who helped lift my spirits. I am thankful for all those who gave me advice. I pray you will consider my request in this campaign and will be more than thankful to any /all who contribute towards this. A special thanks for you taking the time to read this.
Sincerely,
Charla Foster
