Hi Everyone,

My name is Alexis, and I had the privilege of being a student of Erin Beckwell's.

It is with a heavy heart that I reach out to you today. Our dear Erin Beckwell and her family are facing an unthinkable tragedy that no family should ever endure.

On December 25, 2023, Tyla Whitebird, a beloved soul, was tragically taken from this world. Erin and Lisa, Tyla’s chosen moms, along with the rest of her family, are now navigating the devastating reality of saying goodbye to a daughter, sister, niece, granddaughter, and cousin. Tyla's death was unexpected, and despite her struggles, she was a beautiful, vibrant, and tenacious spirit who touched the lives of many.

The grieving process is an immense challenge, and Tyla’s family should not have to bear the additional burden of financial hardship during this difficult time. Your support will provide them with the space they need to heal and honour Tyla’s memory.

Erin has been an extraordinary presence in so many lives. As a teacher, friend, and community advocate in Saskatoon, she has tirelessly supported the rights of all, working towards creating an inclusive community, and fighting against stigma and discrimination. Now, as Erin faces this heart-wrenching loss, let's come together to support her and Tyla’s families, just as she has supported all of us.
