On Tuesday September 8th, our brother James and his wife Lorie Williams lost their home to the devastating Southern Oregon Fire. They were able to evacuate safely with their dogs and almost all the cats. Unfortunately, they lost an entire lifetime of personal belongings and cherished memories. They fled with only the clothes they were wearing. There is nothing left of their home or possessions.
3 years ago James and Lorie lost their home due to the financial toll that came along with James medical expenses. He has been diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy and Ankalosing spondylitis. Treatment has been very difficult with a pacemaker, several stints and numerous heart surgeries. In fact James had another pacemaker fitted just 2 weeks ago.
James and Lorie have been active and generous contributors to their community for their whole lives. James was the vibrant head chef at the iconic Omar's restaurant in Ashland. He is well known in the restaurant industry for his skill and contribution (as well as being 'Iron Chef' Oregon Winner). Lorie has also been a much valued member of the Omar's team for a generation.
With hard work and perseverance they were able to gather enough money to purchase a trailer in the Bear Lake Estates (a 55 and older community). James and Lorie were beginning to look forward optimistically to the future after settling in to the park. They lovingly restored the van and enjoyed the surrounding community and lifestyle.
For now, James and Lorie are staying with their oldest daughter whose house was saved.
We are hoping to raise some money to enable them to rebuild their lives - to purchase some household items, furniture and clothes and get them started on rebuilding and help with some of the expenses they are going to face with starting over. Where do you begin? A bed? Sheets? Shoes and socks? The list is daunting. Recovery will take time and emotional strength. A little help to get them started would be so much appreciated. All monies donated will be paid directly into James and Lorie's bank account and spent on urgent necessities and eventually the replacement of their home.
