"In the Hood".

The Exhibit:
I have produced a new installation entitled "In the Hood", a social/ political satire exhibition comparing the Tea Party ( with its irrationality and shameless divisive rhetoric and obsession with race, blame and hyperbole) to the KKK. The installation farcically juxtaposes, pairs and weds a most unlikely pair; the new Tea Party with ghetto fabulous Hip Hop culture.

About Me:
I am a multimedia artist and storyteller who has successfully created large scale installations over past 15 years. My largest installation, "Juke Joint" has been selected for the permanent collection at the new Smithsonian African American Museum of History and Culture opening in 2015. (see link )HTTP://www.willielittle.com/jukeJoint.htm

Current Status of Exhibit:
I have received a Pollock Krasner Foundation Grant to create the work, but need additional funds to complete the installation by the end of July.  The work will be exhibited at the New Gallery of Modern Art in Charlotte opening September 11 of 2014. I need additional funds to complete the centerpiece, a 20 foot tall collapsible Klan hood that will suspend from the ceiling. Completed and within the hood will be a Tea Bagger gown adorned with over 1000 hand dripped black tea bags and a minstrel doll chandelier in the top of the hood. The hood will also have a 5 ft. in diameter chained, gold diamond encrusted Mercedes Benz medallion hanging around its neck. It is made with over 43,000 6mm faceted beads. And oversized ghetto fabulous clocks (with Tea Party images embedded) will be dangling with gold chains surrounding the structure.

Additionally I'll be purchasing wood panels and materials to produce paintings to compliment the installation for this timely and relevant exhibition that opens before the 2014 election!
Larger museums have shown exciting  interest in the piece, thus opening the door to making it a traveling exhibition.
