Retired Teacher Needs Help: Cancer Leaves Debts
Donation protected
I’m fundraising for my dear friend and retired colleague Ana Maria Diaz-Lee. We met in the 80s while working with a local animal shelter. Her love for people and animals is astronomical. She raised $3,800 by going door to door and making calls long before social media! Back then she was also a volunteer for the American Cancer Society making calls to raise funds for those in need. Her passion is to help others and to leave this world a better place wherever possible believing no effort is too small.
Later we worked together at the community college. She went on to teach high school. She taught for 32 years, then retired to care for her mom diagnosed with dementia. Later Ana had a double hip replacement due to crippling osteoarthritis after suffering for almost two years. However, 1 month later she was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer, stage 2, and is currently in remission. Fast-forward, her Mom passed on February 14, 2021, and 10 hours later the electricity went out for 4 days. The home was severely water damaged when the pipes broke. For her to survive on teacher retirement pay and to keep her home and pets, she needs to catch up on her mortgage, as well as pay her extensive medical bills. She has exhausted her life savings to manage. If you can help, thank you!
Please, any amount is helpful!
