Sophie's Story

Hi My name is Pat I am the Chair of Headway Meirionnydd our members would like to help support Sophie at this time.

Please read Sophie's Story below

Sophie made her first appearance at our Headway Group 9 years ago.

Prior to that I knew Sophie as the very pretty young lady, with the most gorgeous red hair, who would always give a cheery hello to anyone she passed.

Sophie was also in the Army Cadets and loved the great outdoors and sport.

Sadly Sophie arrived at Headway with Mum Avril a very different young lady.

At 18 years of age Sophie developed seizures and on investigation it was discovered that Sophie had an Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM) in her brain.

Sophie was admitted to the Walton Neurological Centre where they tried to repair the AVM however sadly the operation caused Sophie to suffer a stroke.

However, being the very determined young lady that she is, she joined Headway and took on the world ‘head on’ along with her rehabilitation.

Sophie then met Lee and they married during the pandemic

Life since then has not been easy for Sophie with many set backs in her young life, including undertaking new treatment last year called Cryosurgery in Sheffield.

In the past month Sophie has again been having symptoms with her AVM so much so that they have had to readmit her to Walton Neurological Centre.

The distance to Walton Centre from here is around 292 mile round trip, taking over 3hours each way. This I a journey that all members of her family are trying to do to keep up Sophie’s spirit.

Our members here at Headway Meirionnydd would therefore like to try and help Sophie and her family as much as we can especially with petrol costs being so high.

But we need your help too.
