Please Help Save Harry:
Meet Harry. Affectionately known as Prince Harry, Harold, and little one. This little bugger is 9 months old. What started as a meet and greet turned into love at first sight (literally) and he came home to join my family May 1st. I had been trying to find the right fit for a companion for my older cat, Roger, for a while. While it wasn’t love at first sight between them, they became fast friends. Harry absolutely adores Roger. And while they have the typical big bro/little bro relationship where Harry is the instigator, it melts my heart when they play and snuggle up next to one another.
On July 27th, Harry seemed off. He was walking sideways and in circles. He looked confused. He was losing balance. That night, he jumped up on my bed, looked at me, and completely fell to one side. On July 28th, I took him to urgent care where they diagnosed him with a central neurological disease with mild seizures. He was prescribed some medications and he would eventually need to see a neurologist.
On August 4th, Harry took a sudden turn for the worse. He could barely walk straight and began to exhibit a head tilt. I rushed him to Red Bank where he was seen by a neurologist. The neurologist explained that his symptoms were indicative of a problem in the back of his brain. The only sure way to find out was to perform an MRI .
On August 5th I received the devastating MRI Results. FIP - a fatal infection. Harry would only live for a couple more weeks. This was and still is very difficult to process. How could I put down a 9 month old kitten that is still so full of life? As hard as it is to process, I decided to bring him home. After researching everything we could find regarding FIP, we reached out to a support for guidance. There is an experimental treatment with an 80-90% success rate of curing FIP. My regular vet also called to tell me that one of his other patients has used this treatment and is doing well. However, the cost of the treatment is way above my means.
Talk about an emotional rollercoaster. After the costs from the hospital, how am I going to afford this treatment? But how can I not try to give this boy the best chance of a full life? This treatment is 84 days of injections. As of August 10th, he has had 4 injections. I go back and forth, daily, on whether or not I am making the right choice. But if you know me at all, you know I would not be able to forgive myself if I didn’t do all that I could to save him. This is a major commitment - financially and emotionally - but I am asking for your help to give my Prince Harry a chance at life. Any donation would be greatly appreciated. If you cannot donate, I understand, but please share this page with your family and friends.
Thank you so much for your time. Amanda, Roger, and Harry
