Hello! My name is Brittany. I am a mother of 2 amazing children. 2 1/2 years ago, I thought I just had a cold and couldn't pop my ears. I went to the doctor and discovered I had a tumor in my right ear. Surgery wasn't an option to remove the tumor. Steroid injections were the only option. The tumor was creating hearing loss, so I went with the steroid injections. After 3 rounds of steroid injections into my eardrum, the tumor was gone. However, the injections left a hole in my eardrum. The hole became too large, and I needed surgery. My hearing loss became worse. The first surgery was deemed successful until 9 months later. A cold and sinus infection led to the skin graft failing. Now I needed a second, more invasive surgery. After waiting many months until I had medical insurance, I was able to have the surgery in April 2025. This surgery was intense, and the healing is still ongoing. I finally had my final audiology appointment where we discovered I have permanent hearing loss. I now require a hearing aid. I'm going to need the hearing aid to help me with hearing in large groups, being able to isolate the direction of sound, and help me balance my hearing in my everyday activities. After reaching out to my healthcare providers and my insurance company, it is not covered. So here I am trying to reach my goal for a hearing aid. This hearing aid would help me so much with my day-to-day function. I am a teacher, a coach, and a mother. Having my hearing impaired affects me so much throughout the day. I now know that my hearing will never return to what it was, but getting this hearing aid will help me with my everyday moments. Anything you can contribute will be greatly appreciated.
