I am campaigning for Headz 1st Barber Institute. Headz 1st Barber Institute is an established Barber school in Loudoun County, VA since 2013. The owner and founder, Anthony "Plus" Davis, became a licensed barber in 2006. Before opening a Barber shop and salon of his own in 2012, Plus worked at a few different barber shops and a Unisex salon. After a year and a half of being opened as a Barber shop and salon, Plus decided to start a Barber School. From what he tells me the barber school is what he really wanted in the first place. Plus earned his Instructor License in 2011 and Headz 1st Barber Institute was established in 2013. I know he has big goals for his school.
Plus's purpose in the barber industry is to change the perception of how some people view the barbering industry. The industry has been around longer than most careers but yet it does not get anywhere near the same respect as some other professions. His goal is to not just keep barbering alive but also create opportunities for existing barbers and aspiring barbers. He feels that enlightening people on this quickly growing multi million dollar industry we call barbering will bring a pride and respect to where parents will understand, accept, and appreciate if their son or daughter comes home and says they want to be a barber.
His vision for the expansion of the barber school is to establish accreditation which would open the doors for the community in multiple ways; one allowing those who may not want to go to a two or four year college or university the opportunity to learn a skill that they can use all over world and that they can pay for as if they were at a two or four year college versus paying out of pocket. I have known Plus before he opened the barber school and I have seen all the hard work he has put into making this a successful school. He has always said "Barbering is one of the oldest trades", once you learn this trade it can never be taken away and it can be done almost any and everywhere. His future plan is to start a non-profit organization which would help young teens and adults find their way in life.
Plus has been an educator for over 8-years. He knew that education is the key to success whether it's earned through a degree or trade program. He also believes in the Art of using your hands versus always implementing technology. He has since paved the path for many students that have earned their Barber License through his program. He has been able to offer some students a permanent position within his barber school after completion of the program. Plus has contracted with Loudoun County Jail and Front Royal County Jail cutting inmates hair both male and female. Over the years he has given back to his community, throughout the DMV area. I recently attended one of the Back to School cuts for kids events and saw first hand how much this meant to the community, to him and the sponsors and especially the kids that got to benefit from the event. Plus has volunteered at multiple Back to School cuts for kids from Virginia, to the District of Columbia, Cuts for a Cause VAREP, he has been a guest speaker at multiple teen centers on career day, he has mentored young men to become barbers, he has attended multiple career fairs throughout Loudoun and Fairfax Counties. Most recently he has partnered with Fairfax County to possibly implement the Barbering program for teens and young adults from the ages of 16-24. Knowing he has put forth the effort to see his community and the people in his community prosper; I would like to see his Barber School flourish throughout the DMV area as well.
With all the non-stop effort he has dedicated, I would like to help him reach his goals by this campaign and help him raise $150,000 which will help cover the License Fees, Permit Fees, staffing, and some build out to make this Barber school a bigger, better, and more successful one. Any amount would be a tremendous help and I know he would be forever grateful.
