My name is Scott Matta, a truck driver from Waterbury Ct. I have been working for a regional trucking company for 11 plus years. In March of this year I passed out for no apparent reason. I went to the emergency room to make sure everything was okay. After testing they found I had a left bundle branch block, which is when the left and right side of the heart was not beating at the same time. I was referred to a cardiologist. With my first visit, they performed a EKG, echocardiogram and a nuclear stress test. At that time they found that my Ejection Fraction, which is the percentage of blood pumped out of the heart was down to 25%. I was diagnosed with heart failure. A healthy heart has an EF of 50% or higher. With my rate so low, I was put on 2 different medications that hopefully would help strengthen my heart, I was also told that I could not drive a commercial vehicle until my EF was back up to at least 40%. I was allowed to do some training for about 8 weeks from the passenger seat, and then was put on short term disability.I found I could not support my family with the $1400 monthly pay from disability. After completing another echocardiogram to find out if the medication worked, I found out my EF was still at 25%. At that time, my company allowed me to work doing light duty work with a significant pay cut. My next step was to get a cardiac catheterization, it was performed with the hope that the doctors would find out something with my heart, they had not, this meant I had to have a CRT-D. A Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy device with a defibrillator was implanted. With this implanted, I cannot drive a commercial vehicle in Ct. And I'm not able to work for at least six weeks.
I can not afford to pay my mortgage and many other bills. My family is being affected now with the lack of essentials. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
