I want to share a story with you, the names are not important for the story, but their story is important and incredibly painful and they need help.
This is the story of a 22-year-old and his 18-year-old sister. Whose mother lost an unfortunate battle with Cancer last year. While the eldest was wrapping up his senior year in college (the first of his family to ever go to college) and his sister was a Junior in High School. After she passed, her husband along with the kids understandably had an extremely difficult time. So much in fact that their “Dad” left. Left a 21 and 17-year-old alone. Alone with nothing but each other. You see, they never came from much but their mother insisted that they both work hard in school and get their education. She wanted better for her kids. The oldest is one of the brightest people I’ve ever met and is truly destined for incredible things. However, since last year, he has been forced to deal with a lot more than any 22-year-old should have to deal with both emotionally and financially. They don’t have much, they are not established in life. He is just starting out in life and she is just trying to wrap up her senior year so she can begin her journey.
The oldest received a call from the landlord of the trailer and found out that his “Dad” stopped paying rent 4 months ago in order to keep his sister in place, he found enough to get them current so that the trailer wouldn’t be taken away. So, he is now covering his rent and the rent of the family trailer. As you can imagine, it’s a tough task for a young man just starting out in the workforce. In talking with him, he only needs to cover the trailer rent until June when she graduates then she will move in with him. Most will ask, why won’t she move in now? All she has is her brother and her friends in High School and I guarantee none of them know what she is going through. Unfortunately, it would be a 3 hour round trip commute every day for school. After all she has been through, she deserves to graduate with her friends.
Unfortunately, they don’t have anyone to help or anyone else in their life. He is a proud young man and has no clue that Candice and I are doing this. I’m super humbled that he has the trust in me to share what’s going on in his life.
So now, I’m trusting each of you and asking each of you for help. I’m asking for a few things. We need help in helping them cover the rent for the trailer until his sister graduates, which seems to be roughly $4500. Why stop there? With Christmas around the corner, let’s see if we can help them too. The tough thing with all of this is trying to keep it a secret and do it for him and his sister without them knowing. I honestly think we can do it.
What I’m asking for is help, if you or your church or other organizations you belong to have programs to help, please let me know. If you would like to donate anything at all, please let me know. If you would like to contribute monetarily to this please let me know. We are going to do our best to show that we will support our family and our community and make sure that both of these kids have a great Christmas and can start their almost adult lives in the right way.
I appreciate you all taking the time and reading through this. Please keep this family in your prayers and pray that we as a community can help them.
Big Blessings to you all.
